Dallas Fire Station No. 40 was designed as a high-performance public safety facility and achieved LEED Silver certification. The project introduces a ground-breaking “Roundhouse” Apparatus Bay concept that rethinks traditional fire station planning to improve firefighter readiness and operational efficiency.

The arc-shaped apparatus bay creates trapezoidal truck bays that provide additional staging and dressing space between apparatus cabs—precisely where firefighters need room for boots, turnout gear, and equipment during rapid response. The radial façade increases visibility into the apparatus bay, allowing the public to see the station’s firefighting apparatus and reinforcing the connection between the fire service and the community it serves.

The station includes six apparatus bays and complete living and operational support spaces, including sleeping quarters for firefighters, lieutenant and battalion chief offices with associated quarters, locker rooms and showers, a commercial kitchen, fitness center, day room, video training area, watch/dispatch room, EMS storage, emergency operations space, decontamination and extraction rooms, SCBA facilities, and general storage.
