Texas State University | Nutrition Science

Construction Cost : $6.1M | SF : 27,094 This Classroom, Lab and Faculty Office Building designed by RSA was a two story addition and renovation designed to compliment an adjacent Baptist College building purchased by Texas State University. After much collaboration, the University preferred that RSA work within the architectural fabric of the original Baptist College structure rather than the Texas State University campus standard. RSA provided several design concepts to the University from modern to literal translations of the original fabric. Ultimately the University chose a concept that was somewhere in between. Inside the building the Smart Classrooms, Academic Labs and Research Labs are state-of-the-art learning environments with the latest technology. The Main Lobby and East Lobby are tailored with warm wood paneling, comfortable lounge seating, and high tech finishes. Flexible Seating and study areas allow students the ability to create large or small groups to relax, visit or study. The project scope included Instructional Classrooms, Academic Labs, Research Labs, Computer Labs, Faculty Offices, Meeting Rooms and Support Functions. The new building completed the 3 sided enclosure of a large signature oak tree and courtyard with the existing building. The same brick, window patterns and cast stone trim found on the existing building were incorporated in the new building. Glass enclosed Lobbies were provided on both sides of the building to accommodate student access. An elevated curved outdoor study veranda with attractive vistas, landscaping, lighting and limestone facade was provided along the east side of the building facing the main campus to soften the building edge.
