RSA designs interiors around the people who use them. Our work creates environments that are functional, durable, expressive, and distinctly connected to the communities and institutions they serve.
Our process begins with understanding the user and extends to every detail of the finished environment. Planning, materials, furniture, lighting, technology, acoustics, artwork, and interior character are considered together, balancing design with the practical realities of daily use, maintenance, flexibility, and long-term value.
And because our in-house interior design is fully integrated with RSA’s architectural practice from the beginning, those decisions are made as part of one cohesive design process.
Finish Selection & Specification
Materials establish the character of an interior, but they also have to perform. RSA selects and specifies finishes with careful consideration of aesthetics, durability, maintenance, lifecycle, acoustics, budget, and the demands of daily use.
Our office features an actively updated in-house finish library, giving the design team ready access to current materials, products, samples, and manufacturer resources throughout the design process. We develop coordinated material and color palettes, evaluate and compare products, prepare finish schedules and specifications, and carry those selections through construction.
Furniture, Fixtures, & Equipment (FF&E)
FF&E is not an afterthought - it's an integral part of how a building functions.
RSA provides FF&E planning and design services that bridge the gap between architectural design and the way a space is ultimately occupied. Our team considers furniture early in the design process so that layouts, power and data, circulation, storage, technology, and workplace needs are coordinated before construction is complete.
This integrated approach allows furniture to support the larger goals of the project, whether that means creating a flexible municipal workplace, encouraging informal student collaboration, improving privacy and acoustics, or accommodating future organizational change.

Space Planning
Good space planning begins with understanding how people actually use a building. RSA combines four decades of municipal and higher education experience with programming, stakeholder workshops, benchmarking tours, and other collaborative exercises to uncover needs, explore opportunities, and establish a shared design language with our clients.
To make the planning process more informed and collaborative, RSA has developed proprietary libraries of space planning standards and proven solutions for the project types we design most often. Rather than starting each conversation with a blank page, we can show clients a range of possibilities, discuss what works and what does not, and use their feedback to develop solutions specific to each client's needs.
Throughout the design process, we consider departmental relationships, circulation, collaboration and privacy, furniture, technology, accessibility, flexibility, and future growth. Because space planning is integrated with the architectural design process, these decisions can inform the building itself from the beginning.

A key member of RSA’s integrated team, Katrina provides interior design leadership across the firm’s civic and higher education portfolio.
A Registered Interior Designer and NCIDQ-certified professional, Katrina brings experience in the selection, presentation, and specification of interior finishes, furniture, fixtures, equipment, and artwork. Her work includes development of color and finish palettes, room finish schedules, FF&E specifications, quantity and budget documentation, furniture and material coordination, and design and construction documents.
Katrina earned a Bachelor of Interior Design from Texas Tech University and also completed a minor in architecture. That dual background reinforces RSA's integrated approach, allowing interior decisions to develop in direct coordination with the building's architecture rather than as a separate layer applied later.
