Centennial Village is a student residence hall designed with a variety of unit types and economical price points for ASU undergraduates. The efficiently designed student housing consist of private bedrooms with a common mini-kitchen and small living area. Compact-style units reduce rental costs to students and encourage social interaction at the Billiards/TV Lounge, Study Rooms, Cyber Lounge, Central Laundry and Meeting Rooms as well as outdoor courtyards, sports court and volleyball court. The ‘E’ shaped building forms a northwest campus edge with gable roofs reflecting the adjacent residential context. The inner sanctum of the ‘E’ shaped building welcomes residents from the campus mall, student center and academic core. Apartment types include 4 bed/2 bath, 2 bed/1 bath and 1bed efficiency units. Centennial Village sustainably replaced an existing housing complex on this site. The hall utilized DNA from the campus fabric while infusing new forms and materials to expand the architecture. Due to the need to minimize price point for residents, the structure was chosen as Type 5 (wood frame) with DX HVAC units. A bold 3-story tower serves as the western terminus for the campus mall with a 2-story glass Lobby and “Sky Room” lounge above. The design of Centennial Hall creates a “Home away from Home” community for residents.
